This week we finished designing the book's cover (which will be printed on the hard cover) and layed out the "about the author" page at the end. What's left : design a box that will be the book sleeve. Traditional book jackets always get damaged and lost over time, so, I'm hoping that a box type sleeve will last longer and look smarter.

Sixth work session
Yesterday I handed over the last texts: 'The history of the escaramuza' and 'about the author,' in both languages. Thanks to my good friends Karla Calviño and Rosana Perez and my husband Chico Sanchez for editing my Spanish translations. And thank you so much to my girlfriend Sophie Nicholson and my dear mother Nell Mazoch for helping me polish up my English. Next week I meet again with graphic designer Margarita to finish the cover design and I'm expecting a guest's prologue to be done!

Fifth work session
Five down, and possibly just two more to go! All the photos are in place and only the written words remain. As I sat with the book designer, Margarita Hernandez, watching her place the last photo, it hit me. I felt amazed and thankful. Getting this project into book form was something I tossed around in my head when I saw the project taking shape. It felt like wishful thinking at the time...but I guess that's what dreams are made of !

Fourth work session
The photos are layed out and done! Designer Margarita Hernández placed the last two photographs and I requested changes to about seven previous pages. The last layout to design is for one historical photo of the first escaramuza in 1953, and portraits I took of the people in that photograph who are today in their 60s. Also I need to edit the text, of which there is little but enough to require a few more weeks of work. We meet again next week.

Third work session on Escaramuza
Yesterday Wednesday March 28 we got up to page 89 done! Just a few more pages to go and we're done laying out the photographs! I'll meet up again with graphic designer Margarita after Easter week, so I've got 12 days to prepare things for her, like confirming the English text is okay, etc. The publisher will edit the Spanish text. It's looking like we can finish it by the end of April. (-:

Second work session for the book design
Pages 9-37 done! Today graphic designer Margarita Hernández layed out about 25 photographs and we decided on how the quotes will look, which will be sprinkled about the pages. It's coming along!

The book design begins!
Today I met with graphic designer Margarita Hernández and we got started on the design! We choose fonts, symbols and sizes and got through the first eight pages. We're meeting one day a week to work on it until it's done.
